From a humble beginning in 1986, Aaswad Upahar & Mithai Griha has come a long way. Our simple thought is to provide our guests a valuable & enriching ‘authentic food experience’. Aaswad Upahar & Mithai Griha was started by Shri Shrikrishna Ganesh Sarjoshi in 1986. It was inaugurated by non-other than Hinduhrudaysamrat Shri Balasaheb Thakrey.  Shri Shrikrishna Ganesh Sarjoshi focussed on providing authentic traditional Maharashtrian Delicacies, which won the hearts of people. His son Shri Suryakant Shrikrishna Sarjoshi, took over the Management of Aaswad Upahar & Mithai Griha and in 1999 redesigned the whole set up making it fully air conditioned.

Aaswad serves traditional authentic Maharashtrian delicacies like Varan Bhaat, Pithle Bhaaji Bhakri, Pola Usal, Kothimbir Wadi, Sabudana Wada, Thalipith and many more. It also has its own Sweets Counter where we have a range of sweets from Modak to Bengali mithai.

Suryakant Sarjoshi hasVariety_of_Mava_Modaks_during_Ganesh_Festival maintained the legacy of his father of providing authentic Maharashtrian delicacies. In fact, he started introducing new delicacies every year, which have become popular amongst the guests coming to Aaswad.

For example, Aaswad serves ‘Sattviki’, a diet meal popular among those on diet, every year during the Makar Sankranti, Aaswad serves ‘Sankrant Thali’ which consists of the traditional menu of Bhakri, Bhogi Curry, Kadhi, Til Satori, Bhogi Khichadi, Mirgund, etc. So also, Aaswad has recently introduced the Puranpoli Icecream.

There is a popular saying in Marathi, ‘कस्तुरीचा सुगंध लपत नाही’ means, the fragrance of musk cannot be hidden. Thus is the popularity of this ‘Maharashtrian’ Aaswad whose authentic delicacies give people an enriching experience of ‘मां के हात का खाना’ & ‘अपने मिट्टी का स्वाद’.. ‘a taste of mother’s recipes’, ‘ a taste of our own soil’.Puranpoli_Icecream

Aaswad’s Puranpoli Icecream introduced this year is an authentic dessert which has actual Puranpoli – a traditional Maharashtrian delicacy which is prepared especially during holi. This along with pure ghee, milk and cream,

Puranpoli Icecream became an instant hit with the guests at Aaswad. Suryakant Sarjoshi has planned to introduce more such innovative dishes keeping in mind the customer needs, market trends however, not compromising on the authenticity and culture of Maharashtrian cuisine.

मऊ पुरणपोळीवर तुपाची धार आणि गरम दुध असे नेहमीच खातो. पण त्याच पुरणपोळी, तूप आणि दुधाला ‘आईस्क्रीम’ स्वरुपात आस्वाद घेऊन आले.

इतकेच नव्हे तर ते ग्राहकांच्या पसंतीस उतरले. या पुरणपोळी आईस्क्रीम सोबतच ‘पुरण सॉस’ मिळतो. जायफळाचा छान जायका असलेला हा सॉस पुरणपोळी आईस्क्रीम सोबत दिला जातो.
