SpiceJet, the country’s favourite low-cost carrier, today unveiled ‘Khel Yatra’ for the underprivileged children in Delhi as its chief sponsor. An inter-school 100 meter athletic competition Khel Yatra is a special initiative supported by the airline to identify and appreciate young budding talent from among the underprivileged sections of the society who otherwise go unnoticed.
The competition was conceptualised and organised by two Gurgaon based students Joya Kapoor and Maria Serrato of The American Embassy School. Amit Khanna, former 100 m track champion was invited as the chief guest while Ajay Singh – CMD, SpiceJet was the special guest at the event. Mr. Singh, a sports lover himself was absolutely thrilled to applaud and interact with the young athletes.
The programme was backed by more than 11 NGO’s including — Udayan Care, Nu Life, Saksham, Shrishti, Naya Savera, Nai Disha, Vidya School and Divine Youth Foundation among others. The competition organised at Thyagaraj Stadium witnessed a joyful audience cheering over 156 participants. The tournament enticed the budding participants with some very exciting prizes wherein the first prize was a round trip air tickets within India, Courtesy SpiceJet, the chief sponsor.
As an airline which pursues the vision of making more Indians fly than ever before, SpiceJet has boldly supported the noble cause of empowering the underprivileged children of the country on numerous occasions. Most recently as a part of its #GivingWingsToDreams program, the airline in association with the Rotary Club of Chandigarh operated a special flight for 50 underprivileged children thereby giving them a lifetime opportunity.
The tournament was concluded with the award ceremony wherein gold, silver and bronze medals were given away to the winners in each category of girls and boys by Amit Khanna, while the runners up were awarded with participation certificates.
