PDJT1000866Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc.’s (MUFG) banking entity, The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd. has appointed S Ramanathan as Chief Compliance Officer for India. S.Ramanathanjoins the bank on 10October 2017 and will be based in Mumbai, reporting jointly to Mr.Ryoichi Shinke, Regional Executive for India & Sri Lanka and  Mr.Kevin Ludwick, Singapore-based Head of Asian Compliance Office.

In his role, S.Ramanathan will lead the Compliance function and team at a pan-India level and work closely with Asia Compliance Office located in Singapore in implementing the MUFG Compliance Change Program for India.

The appointment of S. Ramanathan is part of the bank’s ongoing efforts to strengthen and upskill governance functions in line with local and international banking and regulatory requirements. Earlier this year, the bank has also made key appointments to senior governance roles in India including Chief Risk Officer and Head of Legal.

S.Ramanathan comes with a strong background in Legal and Compliance functions with significant experience in banking and financial services in India across Indian and foreign organisations.

Prior to joining MUFG, S.Ramanathan was Head of Legal, Compliance and Principal AML Officer at Societe Generalesince 2008. His role involved supporting the bank’s expansion in India, implementation of the new OTC derivatives margining rules, large exposures framework, Basel III, MIFID II, revised Indian Accounting Standards, EMIR, CRS, FATCA and the Insolvency and Bankruptcy code in India.

Previously, S. Ramanathanhas also held positions in Legal, Compliance and Company Secretariat through his earlier career with Future Generali India, HDFC Standard Life and Reliance Industries Ltd.
